Easter In San Leandro

Posted By: Heather No Comments March 24, 2008

Bowl of easter eggs

Today we went to Aunty Lillian & Uncle Don's house in San Leandro. It was wonderful to see everyone. We left Sacramento a little bit late and hit some traffic, so we missed the carving of the roasted pig. There were plenty of festive activities: the Easter egg hunt, the raw egg toss, and the sack race. The highlight of the day was when Alissa demonstrated her poi ball skills. Someone suggested that year we'll have a talent competition and name it "Easter Idol". Mark and I will have to figure out what our talent for next year will be. J

Of course Mark took some pictures. Click here see the Easter photos.

August Update

Posted By: Mark No Comments August 16, 2007

OK, it's been a while since we updated the site. Sorry all. I tried to talk Heather into it but apparently she's not to into it right now. ;) Love ya babe! hehe!

So first up I want to talk about the new Jib Jab beta software that allows you to easily cast yourself into some of their highly comical movies. All you need to do is upload a photo of your head and use their online tools to cut it out and save your head. It's really that easy. I think it's a lot of fun and made this one in about 10 min or less.

Aloha Festival 2007
This is probably our 4th year attending the Aloha Festival in San Francisco. It's a free event and always takes place the first week of August. This year was a bit on the chilly side but we made the best of it. It did not rain but the fog was heavy with moister so it was practically like rain. I posted quite a few images to our photo gallery and hope I can talk Heather into adding some captions. Please give her some encouragement by posting a comment below.

Page Day 2007
Page day is a tradition with my company. Normally it's a relaxing day up on Consumes River swimming and drinking beer. This year is was a 10 mile hike through the beaches, suburbs, and city streets in San Francisco. I think we all started off with an enthusiastic outlook and ready to go. About half way through I think a few people were left second guessing if they had made the right decision. Actually the first half was the easy half. I think we were all doing ok when we sat down to eat Togo's for lunch just below the Golden Gate Bridge. It was about the time we hit the pavement in the city streets that a few of us started to feel the pain.

The real test was the long climb up Hyde street that is so steep the sidewalks have groves in the pavement to help provide pedestrians at least some level of traction. It was enough to make your calfs burn for even the seasoned hikers.

We made our way down Lombard street where we posed for a photo acting like the Beetles on the Abby Road cover. That was Paul's idea although I am not sure why on Lombard street. Abby Road is in England right? I figure the must have been a method to Paul's madness, although he is leading us on a 10 mile hike through SF… It was fun all the same. We finally made it to our destination at Coit tower where Heather and I spent most of our time looking for the Wild Parrots. We watched a documentary on them recently and were excited to see a few were still there.

In typical mark fashion, I took plenty of photos and you can check them out here.

Our bid was accepted! I cannot believe it! Heather and I are going to be moving into our new home very soon. The apartment dwelling lifestyle is over… *sigh* It only took 7 years! hehe Better late than never right?!

We just found out today. Our agent called me at my parents house to give me the good news. Heather started to cry when I told her. ;)

Just before Christmas too. couldn't have asked for a better time. I am so excited I cannot even write about it. Take a look at the photos here.

We will update you all when we have a chance to settle down. and wrap our heads around the thought of being home owners.

Page Christmas

Posted By: Mark No Comments December 16, 2006

Page Christmas is something of a legend. I had heard the rumors that it was a blast. Well since I am now an employee of Page Design I get to experience it first hand. The photo above illustrates in a small way the thought and imagination that makes a Page Christmas. our names were drawn from a cup and read aloud, we then got to pick a number off the board of "DIRTY JOBS" this job represented the extra job we get for cleanup day This Spring. Not to exciting right… I know I had clean the men's restroom on my Christmas wish list for a few years now. I didn't get that job, so I guess I have wait and try again next year… However each dirty job came with a prize. I ended up with a $25 Gift certificate to bed bath and beyond. My job is not that dirty. But I do need to be organized, and that is why I received the Bed Bath & Beyond gift certificate. How clever is that? Now the gift certificates are not the end of the story. There was more. we all received some very nice gifts, and Christmas bonuses. On the surface the monitary gifts are great but there is something more to it. Something that makes Page Design a great place to work and that is the people that work there, and the families of those co-workers. It really is like a really big family. Can't wait until next year!

Well as promised, you can check out the festivities photos in the photo section of the website.

1st Anniversary

Posted By: Mark No Comments September 20, 2006

This past weekend Mark and I celebrated our 1st anniversary. It's hard to believe that a year has already passed. We left for Monterey on Saturday the 16th at 7:30 in the morning. After days of trying to secure a hotel room, I finally was able to book a room close to the downtown Monterey area. We weren't aware when we decided to go to Monterey that the weekend of the 17th was their annual Jazz Festival. It was pure madness! We arrived at 10:15, just a little after the aquarium opened. We mostly went to see the young great white shark in the outer reef tank. I guess everyone and their brother had the same idea. It was way too crowded for our liking. We stayed until 4pm and then set off for the 17 mile drive. The 17-Mile Drive is a scenic road through Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach, much of which hugs the coastline and passes famous golf courses and mansions. It was pretty cool. Mark got to take a few pictures of the Lone Cypress tree and various wildlife. I took some video of the adventure. It would be really cool to go back some time in October, which is when the Monarch butterflies make their yearly pit-stop in Monterey on the way to Mexico. Sunday was a lazy day. We enjoyed a complimentary breakfast of pastries in the lobby of our hotel room and then we meandered to the fisherman's wharf. It was a gorgeous day. The weather on the coast can sometimes be unpredictable, but this past weekend was nothing but clear skies. We decided to take the long way home and traveled up Highway 1 for a change. It literally took us 5 hours to get home. We stopped for lunch in Pacifica and hit major gridlock in San Francisco. Poor Mark was sick of driving, and I don't blame him a bit. It was nice to finally get home and eat a slice of our defrosted wedding cake. (Which tasted pretty good, I might add.) I'll have to get Mark to post a picture of it. Thanks Mom for taking care of our cake for a year! Check out the photos in the photo gallery.
